Houston Neighborhood: Pearland – BBQ, Award-Winning Wine Label and Golf
Pearland, Texas is located just minutes away from all the action of Downtown Houston and a few miles from NRG Stadium off Texas Highway 288, with easy access to William P. Hobby Airport.
The city of Pearland has so much to offer Houston residents, as well as visitors with great options for dining (some underrated gems for sure), shopping and a ton of recreation.
BBQ and Brew
You’ve probably heard of Pearland thanks to all the great BBQ establishments throughout. Killen’s Barbeque, one of three Pearland restaurants run by Ronnie Killen, has garnered most of the attention, consistently ranking among Houston’s best restaurants and among the best BBQ restaurants in the United States. Two of the most underrated (not to mention easier to get a spot in line) are Central Texas BBQ, which is a family-owned spot going strong for more than 40 years and Big Horn BBQ, which offers a fun western vibe and live music on Friday nights.
Pretty new to the area, you can find a family-friendly craft brewery, BAKFISH Brewing Company, and if wine is more your thing, be sure to visit Dionisio Winery, which is a local favorite. BAKFISH is Pearland’s first microbrewery, which serves five core brews, brewed on-site plus a few seasonal selections from time to time. Located in the heart of such a family-friendly area in Pearland, the brewery is completely kid and dog friendly and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for your entire party. We promise your kids will have friends at a neighboring picnic table here.
The award-winning wine label at Dionisio features popular fruit wines, such as Green Apple Riesling, Peach Chardonnay, Black Cherry Pinot Noir in addition to an exclusive “Pear and Simple” wine which is their way of paying homage to Pearland. Enjoy a glass or two in the tasting room or outside on the patio, and be sure to check out their Facebook page for information on upcoming events.
If German and Czech imported beers are more your speed, check out the famous King’s Biergarten & Restaurant, where you’ll be able to taste authentic German cuisine along with various tasty brews. German culture mixed with Pearland spirit can be found at this family-owned restaurant, which is set in a castle complete with faux towers and European flags to help sell the concept. King’s is a local favorite and was voted Best German Restaurant in the USA by Germandeli.com from 2012-2014.
Fun Times in Pearland
If you’re even a moderate golfer, try your hand at the newly renovated Pearland Golf Club, east of Highway 288 and McHard Road (still only about 10-15 minutes from NRG Stadium). If you’ve got some spare time, consider taking a lesson from General Manager Israel (Izzy) Gonzalez or the club’s golf pro Matt Schewe. Together the two have more than 50 years combined PGA experience. After your round or lesson, hit up the grill for one of the best burgers in the Houston area. It may yet again be underrated, but it’s worth all the calories.
If you feel the need to clock some quality shopping time, check out Pearland Town Center with 1,100,000 square feet of open-air retail center, home to more than 80 fashion retailers and dining spots. The retail center is anchored by Macy’s and Dillard’s and offers many other favorites for shoppers of all ages.
If you’re stuck trying to figure out what to do during your stay in Pearland, be sure to check out their event calendar for all the listings, whether you’re looking for date-night options or family-friendly adventures.
