Houston Neighborhood: Midtown – Keeping Houston Lively All Night Long

Probably the liveliest neighborhood in all of Houston is Midtown, which has so many restaurants and bars to choose from you’ll wish you booked a two-week vacation just to explore them all. Some of them maybe twice.

A favorite new hotspot in the trendy area of Midtown is Stoked Tacos and Tequila, which is run by some fun and creative Houston Texan fans. The inside décor adds an entirely new element to the happening area and the menu is what taco dreams are made of (the co-owner and chef, Adam Puskorius, is formerly of Eddie V’s, so you know he knows a thing or two about good food). Stoked Tacos and Tequila is the team’s take on Mexican Street Food, with TVs all around to catch the latest game and a great vibe, next to other passionate sports fans and foodies, all in one area.

Another trendy and can’t miss spot is Weights + Measures, which is a restaurant and bake bar, and is everything you imagine it to be. It’s a super casual spot (yoga pants or dresses will do the job) in an industrial warehouse from the 1950’s and serving up a quintessential American menu with some of your favorites (burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, salads). And don’t forget the bake bar before you leave, although the aromas will make it hard to forget.

If you’re looking for something a little fancier for a night out, check out Brennan’s and be sure to save room for the Banana’s Foster. (If you don’t make it on this visit, they’ve been so kind as to share their famous Banana’s Foster recipe with you.) But you really should find time to add this to your agenda while in Houston, as it encapsulates so much of the city in just one evening. In 2008, a two-alarm fire burned down the iconic restaurant, but since then they have rebuilt, stronger than before and are back in business. Consider this a second chance for all of us.

Before or after you take in all the good food and libations in Midtown, check out the Lawndale Art Center. You can even snap a coveted selfie in front of one of the murals at 4912 Main Street just to prove you’ve been there. Remember, if there isn’t a picture, it didn’t happen.

Another great place for a destination picture is Bagby Park, where you’ll find the Midtown letters and a large grassy area to hang out, along with a dog park. Not only does it make for a great picture, it makes for a great afternoon. Grab a blanket and a good book and just relax for a few hours.

As mentioned, there are about a hundred great options for nightlife throughout the Midtown area. Check out the list here, and maybe it will help you sort through them all. There are got sports bars, wine bars, pubs, locally driven craft spots, karaoke joints, music venues and so much more to choose from.

Midtown has been known to throw a party or two, so be sure to keep track of their event calendar so you don’t miss out on anything spectacular.
